Let’s talk.
We’re approaching yet another long weekend. Easter just passed, May 1st is knocking, and some of you are already planning how you’ll “rest and recharge” — yet you’re behind on rent, salaries, and supplier payments.
My question is simple:
Why are you planning a four-day holiday when your business account is in the red?
Are you resting from the stress you created… or from the progress you haven’t made?
In 2020, the world was shut down. Covid-19 came in like a storm. Zimbabwe went on lockdown. Police and soldiers flooded the streets. The nation froze. But I couldn’t afford to stop.
The first week, I stayed home like everyone else. By the second week, I had declared my consultancy an essential service. I rallied a few bold young men and women and we went to work.
When Covid started, we had three offices.
When it ended, we had seven.
While others were baking banana bread and doing TikTok dances, we were building systems and closing deals.
Because here’s the truth:
Tough seasons don’t require more rest — they demand more resilience.
Rest Doesn’t Pay Bills
You can’t nap your way to success.
You can’t “self-care” your way out of debt.
You can’t “Netflix and chill” your way to financial freedom.
If you’re behind on your goals, if your business is not growing, if your clients are leaving you — what exactly are you resting from?
Let me put it plainly:
Rest is earned. Not assumed.
My Mentor Once Told Me…
“Holidays are for billionaires.”
And it hit me hard.
When you’re wealthy, rest is strategic.
When you’re broke, rest is sabotage.
Because trust me — no wife celebrates a husband who’s always home but can’t buy bread.
No child is excited that daddy’s around when he can’t afford ice cream.
No team respects a leader who is always ‘resting’ while they are starving.
Don’t Be Average. Be Hungry.
While your competitors are relaxed, go out and out-hustle them.
While others are in Kariba sipping on Mazoe, be in the market collecting leads.
While others are sleeping in, be building what they’ll envy tomorrow.
We already lost a day to a demo.
Easter gave us four more.
May 1st is loading.
When exactly do you plan to work?
Africa doesn’t need more “balance.”
It needs more builders.
It needs more grinders.
It needs more of us who are obsessed with building timeless businesses that don’t take public holidays off.
In Closing
I’m not against holidays. I’m against unearned holidays.
Rest — but rest after results.
Pause — but not when you’re still in the red.
Balance — but not when you’re off-track.
So before you pack your bags, ask yourself:
“What exactly am I taking a break from?”
Because the only rest that truly satisfies… is the one you earn.
Let’s go to work
